2020 Awards and Recognition

We are very pleased to announce that both our California Bourbon Whiskey and California Rye Whiskey have been recognized by Sunset Magazine, each receiving a silver medal.

During the American Distilling Institute’s Craft Spirit Awards, our flagship California Bourbon Whiskey took home a silver medal in the highly competitive Bourbon Whiskey Category. Meanwhile, our California Rye Whiskey also made an excellent showing, bringing home a bronze medal.

Wonderful Surprise My wife and I headed up for a last minute Mammoth ski trip and saw the Devils Creek Distillery billboard on the drive up. We had a little time to kill and thought it would be fun to check it out. The distillery is tucked inside an industrial area away from the crowds. John and Clayton immediately felt like long time friends as we chatted, sampled and had a personal tour of their distillery. I really liked their bourbon and rum and the excellent experience was the icing on the cake. What an awesome addition to a fabulous ski weekend.

A must try Distillery experience. The Mendel family showed us a wonderful experience in their barrel tasting room. John, Luan, and Clayton have a passion for their spirits. They shared Rye, Bourbon, and a surprise blend that was delicious and smooth.
A must visit on any trip to the Mammoth area.

Awesome LOCAL distillery in Mammoth Started from scratch in Mammoth Lakes, not just buying and mixing spirits like some other "distilleries" you may come across in other areas. John and family have put together some tasty rum, bourbon, and whiskey made right on site. Stopped in for a tasting and walked out with a bottle of rum for the cold nights after skiing. John is very knowledgeable and can fill you in on all the intricacies of making spirits at 8000 ft!

The tasting room was cozy and we felt very welcomed. The owner of the distillery gave us a tasting and a tour. He explained how they make the whiskey so well. Will come back for sure just to buy more whiskey.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a bottle of Mammoth’s own Devils Creek Rum/Bourbon/Rye. No ice needed. Tasting room open Fri/Sat 3-6. You can find this nectar around town in some fine eating establishments.

After seeing the billboard off the highway we decided to come in after a day of skiing.

The place is a bit hidden but not too difficult to find.

A family run distillery with the father who gave us the tour. I think normally the tours last about 15-30 minutes but our tour guide sat and chatted with us for awhile about the history of bourbon. We got to taste rum, bourbon, rye, and a specialty bourbon. We also ended up buying some bottles because we enjoyed the tasting so much.

They make small batches and they seem to put lots of effort to making good spirits! Definitely recommend!

Devils Creek hits the mark! Visited the distillery June 16, 2021. I enjoy whiskey but am always a bit leery of rookie labels that charge too much and often miss the mark. NOT the case at Devils Creek. First off John and Luan were genuinely welcoming and fun to talk with. John poured a tasting of the rum, bourbon and rye. I'm a rum novice so I honestly can't give you much detail. It was quite tasty though and my wife purchased a bottle of it.
The bourbon gave a nice Kentucky hug and further sips gave me all the flavors my pallet enjoys in a fine whiskey. The Rye .oh my!! We all looked at each other after the first two sips. "I'll take two bottles please". Very well done sir.
Get your selves to this distillery when you're in the area. It's in a small commercial park off the beaten path .a good thing I'd say. Look forward to visiting Devils Creek every time we're in Mammoth!!!

Once you walk in the door, you are part of the family. It’s being a couple of weeks since we stopped by and our group still dreaming of what a great weekend we had in Mammoth. This was a dream stopped for someone in our Party for many years. We couldn’t be more pleasantly for the quality and the family welcome we got. There was no choice but to take some bottles for the road. May everyone’s visit be as pleasant as ours.

A True Mammoth Gem I absolutely loved everything about Devil’s Creek Distillery. The family is incredible - right down to Bailey the dog. Learned so much about spirits from mom, Luanne. Everything was delicious. Had to bring a bottle home. Can’t wait to go back next year! Highly recommend!

Impressive local distillery My husband and I carved out some alone time after skiing by visiting this local distillery. This 100% local place is dog friendly and has great ambiance. John and his family have produced some really special spirits. Small batches and attention to detail equals huge flavor and amazing whiskeys. The Rye and Kentucky style Bourbon are incredible. They also have a tasty Rum which is smooth and natural, no additives or colors. If you enjoy genuine, artisan spirits made high in the mountains, you MUST visit Devils Creek! All served in a very cool and cozy tasting room. Good vibe all around.
